3 Remain Unindicted in Frio County Vote Harvesting Ring
Adding them would bring the total up to 16 people.
Last month, I reported over a dozen indictments in Texas Scorecard involving an alleged vote-harvesting ring in Frio County, part of a convoluted web that The Independent noticed.
When I finally got hold of the initial six indictments, I noticed three names kept appearing in them:
Vanessa Benavides, Sara Morales, and Aundrea Camacho.
According to the indictments, all three accepted Cash App payments from candidates and would pass the funds on to Cheryl Denise Castillo.
If true, then Vanessa Benavides did this at least four times, Sara Morales twice, and Aundrea Camacho at least once - no relation to her or Judge Camacho, I swear!
Look for yourselves, their names are all over these indictments and public records.
Castillo died last year, so Ken Paxton won’t be indicting her from beyond the grave.
But why not these three?
While there may be additional incidents involving them under investigation, Paxton and the Frio County DA appear to have enough to indict all three of them.
And the penalty for a conviction under each count is severe:
Up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Plus, the bond for each count is $2,000 (or 10% is $200 each count until trial).
Otherwise, they could be a potential flight risk given that it is only a 90-minute drive from the border.
I’m not sure I know the answer to this, but let’s hope the authorities are watching these three, if not turning them into informants.
Maybe it is time for people to start asking the Frio DA’s office to act soon.
